Poem: Working on a spring afternoon

Verdigris and gold,
bright as neon, and tie-dye
too loud for good taste
waving in the breeze,
drinking rain water
like nymphs and sunlight
like heady sweet wine.

***

Last year's fur, ruffled
and wind blown, clinging
to a fat cattail, gilded
with former glory and stubborn
unwilling to let go,
to start over, to begin.

***

Color splashes, unbelievable
inside steel walls and glass
that turn bird whistles into
barely heard whispers and
the images outside into a flickering
film, playing out as our lives
go slowly on.

Playing with Fives

Eliza posted a "Fives" game, and I got tagged. I've been putting off responding due to being just a tiny bit busy but it's time to actually respond so here goes.

What were you doing five years ago?
Ah here is where being a little older makes this boring. You see five years ago I was working in the same job (had it for over eight years now), living in the same house, with the same cats, going to the church a few blocks away (where I grew up) and otherwise having a pretty normal life. And you thought this was going to be deep and meaningful...

What are five things on your to-do list for today (not in any particular order)?
Like Eliza my day is almost over as well, so lets use tomorrow.

  1. Work. I wish it could be avoided but it can't.
  2. Hair cut. Long over due. LONG. Almost to my waist sort of over due.
  3. Sorting of books (I can't take them all).
  4. Removal of squirrel carcas from front porch. (It's raining and it's dark, I am not dealing with it tonight. It's rather mummified. I have no idea where it came from. I'm a little afraid of a zombie squirrel army.)
  5. Garage sale sorting.
What are five snacks you enjoy?
  1. Cheese curls (white cheddar)
  2. Nuts of any variety
  3. Chocolate
  4. Popcorn
  5. M&Ms
What five things would you do if you were a billionaire?
  1. Make a number of people I love financially secure
  2. Call ETSS and tell them to forget about the financial aide
  3. Give a great deal to ERD (Episcopal Relief & Development)
  4. Buy a cabin in my favorite part of this great Northern state along the shores of a lake among beautiful sand dunes
  5. Buy a certain bed and breakfast on the shores of a certain loch in Scotland
What are five of your bad habits?
  1. I can't hold still. Something always has to be moving. I'm told this is annoying.
  2. Explaining to the drivers around me how horrible they are it (driving)
  3. NOT eating proper meals
  4. I have to pick a scab (I know, wasn't I supposed to outgrow that?)
  5. Assuming I've messed up when most likely, not so much
What are five places where you have lived?
Sorry I'm still anonymous so this will be vague.
  1. A town with more-cows-than-people
  2. Many, many dorm rooms
  3. My first apartment - so little, so devoid of furniture, I was so proud
  4. My bigger apartment - More furniture, lousy neighbors
  5. My house. Just right. I'll miss this one.
What are five jobs you've had?
  1. Greenhouse girl/landscaper
  2. Deli clerk (twice)
  3. Grader
  4. Web site designer
  5. Software Engineer
I've lost track of who is and isn't tagged. So I'll be sly. If you know my real name consider yourself tagged.

Pastoral call

Episcopollyanna was one of the first 'pisco bloggers I began following when I first stumbled (belatedly) across the world of blogs. She has battled cancer before and won. At a checkup today she got the news we never want to hear, that she must fight it again.

Please stop by and offer her the fellowship and prayers of the body of Christ.
